It is amazing, these gratuitous remarks. Sure its a sitting duck. So are all of the US carriers. From submarines, from ballistic missiles, from cruise missiles. This is their first carrier. Yep, its actually Russian made. So was US’s first rocket from Germany. Everyone starts somewhere. In 2 years, China will have 2 more carriers, probably not nuclear powered. So, big deal you say. In 10 more years what then?
Not too much relevance in 21st century warfare, but not every country has submarines, ballistic missiles or nukes to take this ship down. So at least it have a place somewhere.
The US has not lost a carrier in 68 years, but they have gotten a lot of use out of them. On the other hand, the US Navy’s submarines and surface ships have been little used for their intended purpose.
No, its because its backed down from modern naval confrontations whenever it was forced into one. When the yorktown and caron were rammed by Soviet warships. There was no naval battle as a response.
I think they could mentally foresee how the naval battle battle and any following battle would play out. And hence decided that it wasnt in their interest to respond to it.
sitting duck !!!

Hasnt been a major naval battle since WW2.
Because the US has been absolutely dominant.

So true. That’s why they are so afraid to lose that dominance. After all, this is a potentially real unexaggerated threat in 70 years.
