New “Xianglong” Strategic Drone exposed in Chengdu

2011-06-30 (China Military News cited from China-defense-mashup) — According to some westerm resources, the Chengdu Xianglong UAV has completed its high-speed taxing test in October 2008. However recently a new exposed drone tells us that China is expanding its UAV family rapidly. In the Chinese Internet picture, this new unmanned aircraft has a diamond-shape wing structure. In 2006 Zhuhai Aie Show, China once displayed one similar model, which also called as “Xianglong”. This situation also perhaps means that there is a drastic competition on the Project of high-altitude, long-duration UAV for China’s strategic reconnaissance.

  1. UAVs are being deployed by the US as we speak in the mountains of Afghanistan and Pakistan. It is only natural for China to develop UAVs technologies to adapt to the new global military environments. Not only should China develop UAVs technologies,China should also exploring on other military technologies since there are vast areas of un-chartered areas of yet to be accomplished techonlogical innovations remained to be chart or map out(the technological universe will indefintely be there to be understood and develop). China does not have to follow step by step what the other nations are doing-As in the distant past,China should tap into the spirits of innovations in order to resume China’s contributions to all of mankind.

  2. Forget about the J-XX, manned stealth fighter/bomber are things of the past. Attack/fighter UAV are the ways of the future. Cheap, expendable, no pilot’s life being put in harms way. China needs to forget about testing any new manned military hardwares and put more money in remote controlled air, ground and sea vehicles. The truth is PLA hasn’t been to wars in years, and the short war with Vietnam was a tactical diseaster. The soldier’s of PLA today are no longer the fearless, battle hardened veterans of the old days. They will not do well in real battle fields and a lots of life will be lost. Better let unmanned vehicles do the fighting, and only sent them in for mop up and occupation.
