Chinese Think Tanks: China Should Expand Influence in Western Pacific

2012-06-25 –  A Chinese military think tank document suggests China should increase its power and influence in areas of the Pacific west of Micronesia and in the Indian Ocean, according to Chinese informed sources.

The internal document of the Academy of Military Sciences of the People’s Liberation Army said China should consolidate its naval power in the Yellow Sea, the East China Sea and the South China Sea while at the same time “effectively protecting national interests” in areas of the western Pacific and the northern and central Indian Ocean that lie west of 165 degrees longitude and north of 35 degrees latitude.

Asked about the document, the academy said it was the view of one researcher at the academy and not the authorities’ official stance. The academy is known for being on the cutting edge of research into military strategy in China.

Japan, the United States and South Korea held trilateral naval exercises last week with an eye to China’s increasing maritime assertiveness.

  1. SamS says:

Yes if countries accuses China this and that, why not act accordingly.

  2. John Brown says:

I dont think you are welcome there. Half of Guam and Northern Marianas are Filipinos.

    • SamS says:

Yeah not welcome? When did any of the world power think what you think and why should China care based on ur accusations?

    • SamS says:

Besides, Micronesia and Indian Ocean islanders have no dispute with China, they will welcome China with open arms when $$ is pouring in, just like rest of the world.

  3. John Brown says:

From the world’s perspective, it seems like you have been maligning your neighbor the Philippines. 20 million live outside the country. They are in every nook and corner of the Pacific islands, from Hawaii (20% of the population are Filipinos) all the way down to Niue Island (New Zealand Territory) there is a Filipino and are intertwined by today’s technology i.e. cable, Facebook (world’s highest penetration), other media. I don’t think they view the Chinese people as bad but its your Communist government that is bad. Time to go the route of Soviet Union to Russia. You have our blessings.

    • SamS says:

Politics are only important as you make it to be. Haters like you will always use “communism” to make your hypocritical claims and arguments to hide your hate toward Chinese people. Plenty countries and people hate U’S's power, military, doesn’t matter if it’s democracy or communist country. Because a congress voted so to invade a nation doesn’t make it more legal than one person’s decision.

For every 1 hater like you, there are 10 people who don’t care but wanting to do business with China. I’m sorry the world doesn’t spin your way, and China’s future influence in these areas are inevitable.
