1.1.3.1 Beijing Military Region: It is one of seven military regions for the Chinese People’s Liberation Army. It has administration of all military affairs within Beijing city, Tianjin city, Hebei province, Shanxi province, and Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. The Region is mainly responsible for defending the People’s Republic of China from Mongolia and Russia, and also protects the capital of Beijing, with the largest number of military personnel of any of the seven regions. The commander of the military region resides in Beijing. The current commander is Lt. General Zhu Qi (朱启上将). He replaced Lt. General Li Xiliang in 2002. The Political Commissar is Du Tiehuan, presumably replacing Fu Yangui in 2002 also.
1.1.3.2 Shenyang Military Region: The Shenyang Military Region is one of seven military regions for the Chinese People’s Liberation Army. It has command and control of military and armed police forces in the three northeast provinces of Jilin, Heilongjiang, and Liaoning, which also form Military Districts. The Shenyang Military Region has been left with unchanged boundaries since the late 1960s. It is bordered internally by the Beijing Military Region to the west.
1.1.3.3 Lanzhou Military Region: Lanzhou Military Region: The Lanzhou Military Region is one of seven military regions in the People’s Republic of China. It directs all military and armed police forces in Xinjiang, Qinghai, Gansu, Ningxia, and Shaanxi. The Ali area of northwest Tibet also falls under this Region. It is bordered to the south by the Chengdu Military Region, and to the north by Mongolia, the Altai Republic, which is a province of the Russian Federation, and Kazakhstan.
1.1.3,4 Jinan Military Region:Jinan Military Region: The Jinan Military Region is a military administrative command located in the east of the People’s Republic of China, covering the Shandong and Henan Provinces, which also form military districts. It is considered a strategic reserve. It includes some of the area previously within the Wuhan Military Region, disbanded in 1985-88.
1.1.3.5 Nanjing Military Region: Nanjing Military Region: The Nanjing Military Region is one of seven military command regions for the Chinese People’s Liberation Army. Its jurisdiction covers all military and armed police located in Anhui, Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Jiangxi, Fujian, and Shanghai. The current head of the region is Zhao Keshi.
1.1.3.6 Guangzhou Military Region: Guangzhou Military Region: The Guangzhou Military Region is a military administrative region located in the south of the People’s Republic of China, covering Guangdong Province, Guangxi Autonomous Region, Hunan Province, Hubei Province, Hainan Province, Hong Kong, and Macau (Hubei, Hunan, Guangxi, Guangdong, and Hainan Military Districts and the Hong Kong and Macau garrisons).
1.1.3.7 Chengdu Military Region: Chengdu Military Region: The Chengdu Military Region is a military administrative command located in the southwest of the People’s Republic of China, covering Chongqing, Sichuan, Yunnan, Guizhou, and the Xizang/Tibet Autonomous Region. It includes some of the area previously within the Kunming Military Region and has its headquarters in Chengdu.
