China promotes Missiles and UAV to Southeast Asia at Bridex 2009

August.20 (China Defense Mashup Reporting by Johnathan Weng) — The latest BRIDEX 2009 (Brunei International Defence Exhibition 2009) has ended 5 days before. And in this premier defense & security event in South East Asia, China has made strong presence to the countries in this area.

CH-3 UAV in 2008 Zhuhai Airshow

Poly Technologies Inc (PTI), one subsidiary of China Poly Group Corporation, has brought some latest missiles and UAV systems to BRIDEX 2009 and promotes them to their potential buyers, such as Brunei and Cambodia.

CH-3 UAV, which has displayed in Zhuhai Airshow 2008, this time is firstly introduced in BRIDEX 2009. CH-3 Unmanned Attacking Aircraft Vehicle is powered by propeller and can carry two AR-1 anti-tank missiles. Chinese company even introduced the detailed information to Brunei Royal Air Force Commander, Brigadier General Dato Paduka Hj Mahmud Bin Hj Saidin. AR-1 missile is also one new “visitor” in this Exhibition. AR-1 has the semi-active laser guided system and can destroy the target at 8 km distance. PTI announces that AR-1 missile can penetrate armor target with 1000 mm armor plate and 1200mm reinforced concrete.

PTI another product is FN-16 shoulder-launch Anti-air Missile, which has IR/UV Quasi Imaging Seeker and especially designed for helicopter targets. PTI tells local reporters that the FN-6 has been exported to Malyasia and Cambodia also shows greats interests on this missile system.

There is no Chinese military shipbuilder appeared in this exhibition. Some South-east Asian medias believe that it is a total failure of “Warship Made-in China”. But the writer of this news story think that the Chinese shipbuilders are not cheap missile vessel providers anymore and are becoming cutting-edge and competitive warship manufacturers in world military market. Besides, their production capacity may also be consumed by the boosting Chinese PLA Navy.
