Chinese Fleet arrives in Vladivostok, one ship bought from Russia

VLADIVOSTOK. 14 October (China Defense Mashup Report by Johnathan Weng)-- Vladivostok welcomes ships of Navy Forces of Republic Liberation Army of China and its Fleet Commander-in-Chief, vice-admiral, Sui Hunman.

Commanding Officers of Pacific Fleet, Chinese public and students met Commander-in-Chief Sui Hunman and sailors from destroyer “Tai Chzhou” and frigate “Ma Anshan” with bread and salt.

Destroyer “Tai Chzhou” actually is Russia Project 956 Sovremenny class missile destroyer and the PLA Navy decided to purchase two unfinished destroyers (No.136 and No.137 ship) worth US$800 million in 1996. And in 2002 China signed a contract with Russia to purchase additional two improved Project 956EM destroyers worth US$1.4 billion. The first hull, Taizhou 138, delivered on 28 December 2005 and the second one, Ningbo (139) was launched in July 2004 and delivered in September 2006.

The Type 054 (NATO codename: Jiangkai Class) is the new-generation multirole missile frigate for the PLA Navy. Ma anshan (525) is the first ship if Type 054 frigate.

This Unofficial visit will be last until October, 18. Hosting ships from the Russian side are “Admiral Panteleev” and “Admiral Tributs”. While in Vladivostok Chinese sailors will be welcomed by Commanding Officers of the Pacific Fleet and Administration of Vladivostok.
