BEIJING, Jan. 30 (Xinhua) -- China on Saturday decided to suspend scheduled visits between the Chinese and U.S. armed forces, in response to Washington's plan to sell a package of arms worth about 6.4 billion U.S. dollars to taiwan.
"We made the decision out of considerations on the severe harm of the U.S. arms sales to taiwan," said Defense Ministry spokesman Huang Xueping in a statement.
The U.S. government on Friday announced the plans to sell a package of arms to taiwan, which include Patriot missiles, Black Hawk helicopters and minesweepers. China immediately expressed strong indignation about the sale after the U.S. government notified the U.S. Congress of the plans.
Qian Lihua, director of the Defense Ministry's Foreign Affairs Office, on Saturday summoned the defense attache of the U.S. Embassy in Beijing to lodge a stern protest.
"The Chinese military expresses grave indignation and strongly condemns such a move to grossly interfere into China's internal affairs and harm China's national security interests," Qian said in a press release of the office.
taiwan issue is related to China's sovereignty and territorial integrity, and concerns China's core interests.
"The U.S. arms sales to taiwan gravely violates the three joint communiques between China and the United States, and seriously endangers China's national security and harms China's reunification course," Qian said. The U.S. such move also constitutes severe violation of the agreements reached by the top leaders of both sides on the China-U.S. relations in the new situation, he said.

It runs counter to the principles of the joint statement issued during U.S. President Barack Obama's visit to China in November last year, said Qian.
The U.S. plan will definitely bring about serious negative impact on the relations between the two countries and militaries, and will to the end severely undermine the interests of the United States itself, he noted.
The United States have reiterated in many occasions that it will adhere to the one-China policy, abide by the three joint communiques and support the peaceful development of relations across the taiwan Straits.
"However, the United States now takes faithless action to sell arms to taiwan again," Qian said such plans severely poison the political foundation of the relations between the two militaries, and produce grave obstacles to military exchanges between the two sides.
Qian urged the United States to respect China's core interests and concerns, take practical actions to abide by its solemn commitments on taiwan issue, withdraw its arms sales items to taiwan, and stop military links with taiwan, in order not to create further damage to the relations between the two countries and the two militaries and to the peace and stability across the taiwan Straits.
"We reserve the right of taking further actions," he noted.
According to Huang, the spokesman, "such a move is gravely against especially the 'Aug. 17' communique signed in 1982."
The U.S. side states in the Communique that "it does not seek to carry out a long-term policy of arms sales to taiwan" and "intends to reduce gradually its sales of arms to taiwan, leading over a period of time to a final resolution."
"We will never give in or compromise in this issue," the statement quoted Huang as saying, noting that the Chinese military will firmly fight against any move to destroy China's national sovereignty security and territorial integrity.

Let it be known that:-
“NO FORCE ON EARTH CAN HOLD BACK CHINA'S CAUSE OF REUNIFICATION"
The United States under Obama continues to interfere in the affairs of China, not to mention other sovereign nations as well. Under pretext of their domestic, arrogant and shameless ‘Taiwan relations Act’, Obama persists in selling arms to Taiwan.
It is a well known fact that the United States would like to cause an ‘independent Taiwan’, to become the American 'Cuba' against China…
----just as Soviet Union established a missile base in Cuba against Mainland USA during the Cold War….
---when the Kennedy Administration literally panicked… and went berserk over the former Soviet Union Cuba at the southern flank of Mainland USA…and thus the Cuban Missile Crisis…and that was more than half a century ago.
And now the US government is salivating for an opportunity to establish an American ‘Cuba’ at the southern flank of Mainland China….
……..and desires to repeat history by doing to China what Soviet Union did to the US previously.
With that, and with the resumption of a regional Cold War by the US government, inter alia, came an arrogant and belligerent declaration by the then US President Bush that :-
‘We will defend Taiwan whatever it takes’
…..evoking a response from Chinese Premier, Wen Jiabao, who in his address to American journalists, declared that :-
‘CHINA WOULD PAY ANY PRICE TO PREVENT TAIWAN BREAKING AWAY’
…and this, following Jiang Zemin’s (Chairman of Central Military Commission then) speech to the PLA that :-
“If Chen Shui-bian has the audacity to go in for Taiwan independence, then I will lead you to liberate Taiwan"
…preceded by the address at the 51st Session of the United Nations General Assembly when Qian Qichen
(then Vice Premier of China) declared unequivocally that :-
“NO FORCE ON EARTH CAN HOLD BACK CHINA'S CAUSE OF REUNIFICATION"
Earlier in his address to the United Nations, Qian Qichen had put the world on notice that :-
‘There is but one China in the world, and Taiwan is an inalienable part of the sacred territory of China. "Peaceful reunification and one country, two systems" - - this is our unswerving guideline for settlement of the Taiwan question. This question involves a cardinal principle of China’s sovereignty, territorial integrity and reunification. It is purely China’s internal affair which brooks no outside interference. The Chinese Government and people are determined to carry through the struggle against all attempts to split their territory or create an independent Taiwan….”
And PLA Major General Zhu Chenghu had declared in 2005 that:-
"if the Americans draw their missiles and position-guided ammunition on to the target zone on China's territory, I think we will have to respond with nuclear weapons," and that "we will prepare ourselves for the destruction of all of the cities east of Xi'an. Of course the Americans will have to be prepared that hundreds ... of cities will be destroyed by the Chinese."
The die is cast. The cards are on the table. The message now is at its loudest and clearest. Even the most stupid cannot feign ignorance…..
It is China’s sovereignty that is at stake…it is about national unity, security, survival, dignity….and humiliation for all Chinese at the hands of the US government - making the combined humiliations of the Opium Wars,
the foreigners’ gunboat policies, the invasion by 8 foreign powers in 1900….pale by comparison..
An American 'Cuba' at the southern flank of Mainland China is just as unacceptable to China as the Soviet Russian Cuba at the southern flank of Mainland USA was unacceptable to the US government then during the Cold War.
It is like having a stray rabid dog at your doorsteps …. so close and menacingly near…monitoring your every move…and threatening you and your family members…night and day….giving rise to ‘Ye Chang Meng Duo’ (long nights and endless nightmares)…and the right thing to do is to put down the stray rabid dog!
Still, the US government continues to persist - to harass, obstruct, oppose, undermine, sabotage ….and provoke China at every possible turn…and this under numerous guises.....
And on March 14, 2005, China adopted its own Anti-Secession Law, just as the United States had promulgated its own US Anti-Secession Act.
Obama is no different from his predecessors in pursuing the US on-going agenda – that of dismembering China, bringing down the Chinese government and the
CPC …..
The rapid modernization of the PLA and its 2nd Artillery Corps (SAC) in recent years will continue to safeguard China’s sovereignty, territorial integrity and the enforcement of the China’s Anti-Secession Law.
Every modernisation of the PLA and its 2nd Artillery Corps (SAC) is greeted with hope and joy in China.
The PLA is the Saviour for all the Chinese people and China.
China will never again be humiliated by foreign military powers!
And
“NO FORCE ON EARTH CAN HOLD BACK CHINA'S CAUSE OF REUNIFICATION"
With the continuing modernisation of the PLA's 2nd Artillery Corps, I would venture to say:-
“NO FORCE ON EARTH CAN DISMEMBER CHINA"
