September.10 (China Military News cited from Chiamil.com.cn) -- The last participating troop unit of the “Stride 2009” series actual-troop test-oriented exercise debuted on September 9. A motorized infantry division of the Guangzhou Military Area Command (MAC) crossed the Xiangjiang River in a forced march and pressed on toward the Central China.
Main Battle Tanks transported via railway
At 8:30 a.m., four air force aircraft took off from a military airport in South China where there is a frontline command post and some troops for reconnaissance, special operation and engineering support. Meanwhile, the main forces of the division embarked on their journey via railway and highway, by air and sea, according to a Xinhua news report yesterday.
The reporters learnt that the division would enlist civil aircraft to transport troops and use MU for high-speed maneuver for the first time. Upon an emergency order, a special operation unit in field camp training on an island will board landing ships to sail to the nearby port for transfer. Maneuver of most of the troops and weapons of the division will rely on railway and highway transportation.

In the next 4 days, the soldiers of the division will traverse 4 provinces and autonomous regions in a 2,000 km long-distance maneuver in which they will come across the complicated "enemy situations" in strange areas amid sweltering heat and scorching sunshine.
The exercise is aimed to test the troops' capabilities in command and control, long-distance maneuver, firepower attack, overall protection and comprehensive support under IT-based conditions in strange and complicated battlefield environment.
The exercise planning and drill subject design highlight the all-dimensional delivery, leading role of information and precision operation.
The exercise has close-to-real-war scenarios, i.e., the two sides are not allowed to have a reconnaissance of the battlefield before the drill, and are only informed of the initial situation and confrontation rules. Both sides know nothing about each other’s operational plans.
The combat units in the exercise are encouraged to carry out simulating confrontations, conduct reconnaissance, make decisions and take combat actions independently.
During the long march, the troops of the division will encounter such complicated situations as reconnaissance and surveillance, electromagnetic interference, surprise attack, damaged roads and bridges and attack by biological and chemical weapons.
In addition, all new equipment are used in the exercise, new training methods and new battling methods will be tested on the exercise ground, the high-tech militias and reservists will be the new "Blue Army", and test-oriented evaluation will permeate the whole process of the exercise.
