"Medical service mission 2009" kicks off in Northwest China

August.19 (China Military News cited from Chinamil) -- "Medical Service Mission 2009” exercise officially kicked off in a training base of the Lanzhou Military Area Command (MAC) on the morning of August 18 and the organization and command drill of the strategy and campaign medical service organs was the first to be unfolded.

It’s learned that the “Medical Service Mission 2009” exercise mainly includes the organization and command drill of the strategy and campaign medical service organs and the medical service troop units (detachments)’ medical rescue actual-troop drill. The organization and command drill of the strategy and campaign medical service organs is held indoors and most of the participants come from the Health Department of the General Logistics Department (GLD) of the PLA and the Health Division of the Joint Logistics Department of the Lanzhou Military Area Command (MAC).

Zhang Shuhua, expert of the directing group of the exercise, told the reporter that the organization and command drill of the strategy and campaign medical service organs had set up 3 training contents according to the actual process of severe disasters’ medical rescue, namely, rapid reaction of military-civilian medical service force, emergently-deployed organization and command of medical service, organization and command of medical service in joint action and medical rescue, as well as in epidemic prevention and control and troops’ withdrawal.

According to Zhang Shuhua, the main purpose of the indoor drill is to test the rapid reaction, organization and command of the military-civilian joint medical rescue. The experience gained in the disaster relief of the Wenchuan earthquake last year is referred to in the design of drill contents and attempts are made in exploring such aspects as the depth, width and organization mode of the military-civilian joint action.
