Apr.2 (China Defense Mashup Reporting by Johnathan Weng) -- Mr. Lin Zuoming (林左鸣), the top head of ACIC (Aviation Industry Corporation of China), has to admit that China's "Taihang" WS-10 Turbofan engine is still unsatisfactory in its quality.
AVIC CEO Lin Zuoming
In one of his opening letter, he says that the military aircraft engine production has been the "chronic illness" in Chinese aviation industry and he urges that the solving of "Taihang" WS-10 Turbofan engine is the key step to reinforce the Quality Control Procedure in AVIC.
Now PLA Air Force has install some WS-10 engine on its J-11B dual-engine heavy fighters for evaluation. But the result is not positive. Some resources report that the quality of WS-10 engine is terrible and PLA Air Force has begun to lose patiency of purchasing more WS-10 engine.

Taihang Turbofan engine Displayed in Zhuhai Airshow 2008
In early March 2009, One Chinese PLA Air Force Pilot sucessfully made a forced landing of one J-10 fighter due to the air shut-down of AL-31F engine. As one kind of single engine fighter, J-10 is very dangerous when power system in trouble.
As a result, PLA Air Force has been knowing the stability of Russian engines and just imported AL-31F engines before the finish of WS-10 development. But the fact shows that the WS-10 engine just looks advanced but has no real advantages to AL-31F.
The forced landing accident warns PLA Air Force that the aviation engines has been the killing shortages of its J-10 and J-11 fleets. No combat aircraft after all can fight without reliable engines.

From what I gather this says the WS-10 isn't reliable. I'll assume it's thrust is good enough?
And the article says the WS-10, not WS-10A. Is it supposed to be the A version?

PLA should simply import some Russian/Urkraine jet engine designer and production managers to augment the situation. Give them some U$ that has lost value and some Chinese wives; assimiliate them!

May be chinese need to learn some lessons from Indians as far as Gas turbine engine is concerned !! PLAAF bought 300 million dollars worth of 180 AL-31F russian engines !! PLAAF still depends on Russia for cutting edge technology. Indians have already accepted the fact that engine making is not child's play, since it involves critical elements. India has sought the help of french but china cannot do the same, because of arms embargo !! Anyways, if you don't to make engines for 4th generation fighters why do you guys bother about making stealth ?
Russia rules !!

China will have indigenous tubofan jet engine eventually.
Example during the 90's China do not have any AEW capbility and face many problem for purchaing and developing. But you see today China had already 2 types of AEW aircraft.
ws-10a will eventually succeed and full operation and in production.

It is good that the chinese authority admit that their ws10 engine is of low quality. but knowing the determination of the chinese people all over the world they will eventually come up with a good one

Agreed that it is a good step that the Chinese are admitting a flaw in their quality. The thing is that anyone who lives here has known it for some time now. Just found a good site study about this issue

The main problem is that ultimately oerall average standard of living will determine the technological peaks of a country. People eating a bowl of rice a day cannot produce quality products.
